چکیده
In the last years, attention to seismic strengthening of existing buildings has increasingly grown, especially since a huge number national incentives been allocated for deep renovation building stock. Various research pushed toward new solutions suitable account entire life cycle retrofit solution and that would overcome main barriers renovation, which are, example, need relocate inhabitants. this work, system involves use coupled pin-supported walls is proposed. The could be carried out from outside thus not requiring inhabitants’ relocation. particular, two are through horizontal beams connected by unbounded post-tensioning cables. effectiveness proposed evaluated application reference case.

Efficiency of strengthening techniques assessed for existing masonry buildings
The Azores archipelago is a zone with a vast cultural heritage, presenting a building stock mainly constructed in traditional stone masonry. It is known that this type of construction exhibits poor behaviour under seismic excitations; however it is extensively used in seismic prone areas, such as this case. The 9th of July of 1998 earthquake was the last seismic event in the islands, leaving ma...
متن کاملExploring the Efficiency of Dampers for Repair and Strengthening of Existing Buildings
In this paper, seismic behavior of the existing buildings equipped by friction dampers is studied. Seismic performance of6-story, 9-story and 12-story steel buildings with damper and without damper were studied. The finite element modeling technique (SAP2000 Software) is used for analysis. Time History analyzing was done to achieve this purpose. For nonlinear dynamic analysis, the responses of ...
متن کاملExperiments on Coupled Technique for Adjacent Similar Buildings
Increasing the population, urbanization has led to the rapid construction of buildings. Due to space constraints and an increase in land cost, these buildings are built too close to each other and can cause damage under dynamic actions such as earthquakes. A new technique, known as Structural coupling, has been developed recently, has found very effective in dissipating the dispersive vibration...

متن کاملFull and Perforated Metal Plate Shear Walls as Bracing Systems for Seismic Upgrading of Existing Rc Buildings
Metal Plate Shear Walls (MPSWs) represent an effective, practical and economical system for the seismic protection of existing RC framed buildings. They consist of one or more metallic thin plates, bolted or welded to a stiff steel frame, which are installed in the bays of RC framed structures. A case study of an existing RC residential 5-storey building, designed between the ‘60s and ‘70s of t...
